Net Worth Nexus and Monarch
A budgeting and household-planning app. Its investment tools sit alongside budgets, goals and cash flow rather than at the centre.
The short answer
If you and a partner are budgeting together, Monarch is the better app and it is not close. If what you want is to know what your closed trades actually earned, Monarch's advanced investment analysis is on the $199.99 tier and its pricing page describes it as unrealized gains and allocation. Ours is realized, and it is on a $4.99 plan.
What each one costs
Free plan with up to 10 manual accounts and net worth tracking, no card. Pro at $4.99 a month, $59.88 a year, adds investment sync and the realized P&L engine. Nexus at $9.99 adds banks and cards.
Core is $99.99 a year, billed annually. Plus, which is where the advanced investment analysis sits, is $199.99 a year and annual-only. Seven-day free trial, payment method required. No free plan.
Investment analytics
What the app can tell you about trades you have already closed.
Realized gain and loss per position
Unrealized change tells you what a holding is worth today. Realized tells you what you actually made or lost when you sold.
Per-position realized gain and loss, FIFO lot matched, on the Pro plan.
Monarch's pricing page lists “Analyze unrealized gains, losses, and asset allocation in depth” on the Plus tier. Realized gains are not named on that page.
monarch.com/pricingLot matching method stated
Two engines can report different gains on identical trades depending on which shares they treat as sold. The method has to be stated to be checkable.
FIFO, applied per position and per account, and named in the interface.
Options as contracts
One contract is a hundred shares. An engine that treats it as one unit reports a cost basis off by a factor of a hundred.
Contracts matched through expiration, assignment and exercise, at the correct per-contract multiplier, including mini options.
Options are not among the investment features listed on Monarch's pricing page.
monarch.com/pricingOptions behaviour analytics
Whether you are paid for the risk you take: which expirations earn, whether you average into losers, how long you sit on winners versus losers.
Yield by expiration horizon, averaging up versus down, and hold-time difference between winners and losers.
Stock splits detected
A four-for-one split multiplies your share count without a trade. An engine that reads it as a purchase corrupts every gain figure for that holding from then on.
Forward and reverse splits are detected and the affected position is flagged as unadjusted.
Corporate actions and splits are not mentioned on Monarch's pricing page.
monarch.com/pricingRefuses a number it cannot stand behind
The failure that costs you money is not a missing number. It is a confident wrong one.
A position whose P&L the engine cannot stand behind is labelled and left out of the totals and the win rate, rather than shown as a result.
No data-completeness labelling is described on Monarch's pricing page.

Budgeting system
If your question is where the money went this month, this is the row that matters, and ours is not the answer.
No budgeting, envelopes or category targets. Net Worth Nexus tracks what you own and owe, not what you spend.
Two budgeting approaches, automatic budget creation from spending patterns, and overspend alerts, on both tiers.
monarch.com/pricingShared household access
Two people, one set of finances.
One person per account. No partner or household sharing.
“Add a partner for free” on both tiers, plus read-only access for a financial professional.
monarch.com/pricingRetirement forecasting
Projecting decades forward is a different job from measuring what already happened.
No retirement projection or scenario modelling.
“Chart your path to retirement with real numbers” and scenario modelling, on the Plus tier.

What each one connects to, and where you can open it.
Institutions
An app that cannot reach your accounts cannot tell you anything.
Brokerages, retirement and crypto through SnapTrade; banks, cards and loans through Quiltt. Live counts are published on our connections page.
networth.nexus/connections“Connect to 13,000+ banks and financial institutions”, plus Zillow for home value and Coinbase for crypto.

networth.nexus/featuresCost of the investment analysis
The like-for-like number, once tiers are accounted for.
Pro is $4.99 a month, $59.88 a year, and carries the full realized P&L and options engine.
networth.nexus/featuresThe advanced investment analysis is on Plus, at $199.99 a year, annual billing only.
monarch.com/pricingWhere Monarch is the better choice
Not a formality. If one of these is what you came for, buy theirs. You will be happier, and we would rather you found that out here than after a refund request.
Two budgeting approaches, automatic budgets built from your real spending, and alerts before you overspend. We have none of this and are not building it.
A partner is included free on both tiers, with shared household categorisation. Net Worth Nexus is one person per account.
Monarch's pricing page cites a 4.9 rating across 100,000+ reviews. We launched in 2026 and have no comparable history.
Monarch runs on web, mobile and iPad. Our iOS app is built for iPhone only, and there is no Android app.
The Plus tier tracks an LLC or rental separately, produces P&L per business, and exports for tax season. We do none of that.
Where every figure came from
Each page below was opened and read on the date shown. Nothing here is quoted from memory, a review site, or Monarch's marketing elsewhere.
Rows describing Monarch always cite a page. Rows describing Net Worth Nexus mostly do not. We are the primary source for our own software, and a link back to our own marketing would not make the claim any more checkable. The demo is the honest version of that check: it runs the real interface, and you do not need an account to open it.
